Ganesh Himal is a sub-range of the Himalayas located mostly in north-central Nepal, but some peaks lie on the border with Tibet. The highest peak is Yangra (Ganesh I) at 7,422 meters (24,350 ft), with three other peaks (Ganesh II-IV) being over 7,000 meters. The name comes from the Hindu deity Ganesha.
The crystals that come from Ganesh Himal range range from exceptional clarity to pieces completely packed with chlorite and/or actinolite. Miners climb the mountain range and hand dig for these crystals, bringing them back down the mountains on their backs so they can be cleaned and brought to market. There is no "mass production" mining going on at these elevations. These operations are done by local villagers with hand tools, lots of hard work, and great care and respect for the crystals and the mountains from which they come.
