A Detailed History of Lemuria Part 1

I would like to officially welcome you to part one, in a series of blogs explaining who the Lemurians were, how and why a group of crystals have adopted the name of their race, and some detailed descriptions of Lemurian crystals available in the gem world today.  This may seem a little backwards, but I want to cite a few sources where I obtained this information at the beginning rather than the end.  The metaphysical community is a beaming target for scammers and fairytale writers.  Fact checking is virtually non-existent in the metaphysical community.  I hope I can shed some light on the truth about Lemuria by presenting information from the earliest authors, philosophers, and theosophists who suggested their existence.

Rudolph Steiner (1861-1925) should be the first name that comes to mind when considering Lemuria.  Steiner was an Austrian philosopher, writer, and is considered the most original thinker of the twentieth century.  Before Steiner, there was William Scott-Elliot (1849-1919).  Scott-Elliot, a theosophist, had some overlap with Steiner who then continued to carry the torch and elaborate on the Atlantean and Lemurian race.  Lastly, we have Madame Blavatsky (1831-1891) who started it all.  This woman was a Russian occultist, philosopher, and co-founder of the Theosophical Society (1875).  Blavatsky was the leader of the “Ancient Wisdom” revival that she claimed laid the building blocks for all modern religions.  A highly controversial woman who was presenting New Age ideas in a time there was no “new age”.  Blavatsky studied in Europe, the Americas, Tibet, and India where she was influenced by both Buddhism and Hinduism.  For our purposes we will be focusing only on Blavatsky’s work on establishing the concept of “Root-races”.

If you’re waiting for the juicy substance, just hang tight a little further, I promise.  There are countless sources in our modern world who claim to have information on Lemuria.  I advise anyone pursuing additional information to proceed with caution.  James Churchward, for example, wrote several books on Lemuria that are best interpreted as fictional nonsense.  Raymond Buckland even satirized Churchward’s writings in a novel called Mu Revealed which he wrote under the pseudonym “Tony Earll” (an anagram for “not really”).  When choosing sources to further your study of Lemuria, I suggest looking into the authors history, their other contributions, their teachers, trainings, and sources.  Many authors on Lemuria are writing nothing more than a good sci-fi novel.

The Akashic Records is where this story begins.  If you are unfamiliar with what the Akashic records are, it would be best to brush up because this is the ONLY source from which any record of Lemuria has been obtained.  In short, Akasha is a Sanskrit word.  It has been known to man since the dawn of Buddhism and is considered eternal along with Nirvana.  In the mid to late 1800’s the Akasha was introduced to a generation of esoteric philosophers who further drew from its ancient and eternal wisdom.  Blavatsky describes the Akasha as a “life-force” recording past, present, and future human though, action, and emotion.  I personally prefer to think of the Akashic Records as a collective unconsciousness.  A certain level of enlightenment and oneness with Spirit needs to be obtained before working towards accessing information in the Akasha.  If you know the Akashic Records exist, consider yourself lucky, for those in the dark are not meant to have access to this pure eternal light in this lifetime.

Out of the Akashic records, the seven root-races were revealed to Blavasky.  Only five of them have had their presence on earth to date, two have yet to be birthed into existence.  Polarian, Hyperborean, Lemurian, Atlantean, and Aryan…in order of evolution.  The Polarian root race reproduced like amoeba, dividing themselves to create two individuals.  They existed on a hot primeval earth that was still cooling from its birth.  The second root race reproduced by “budding” and lived in Hyperborea (yes, think Greek mythology).  Earth had not even developed its axial tilt at this time!  Fast forward through the next root race, Lemurian, which I will circle back to, and we arrive at Atlantean.  To be honest, it’s difficult to capture the Atlanteans in a sentence or two.  They were the most advanced of the root races next to the Aryans.  Some Atlanteans migrated to central, east, and south Asia where they settled and colonized.  In theory, the Mongolians, Semites, and even American Indians could have ancestral connections to the Atlanteans.

ic:The Aryan Era gave way to the Vedic Period when history finally started to take form on paper.

The Aryans are the final root race that has appeared on earth to date.  The last two are still to come.  Our present-day humanity has stemmed from this root race.  It was Blavatsky’s belief that the souls of the Aryan race were a million years old and had their first incarnation into the Atlanteans.  It wasn’t until 100,000 year ago that they incarnated as the Aryans.  There’s a wealth of information on the Atlanteans and Aryans but I’ll leave that up to the reader to pursue further as our focus is on the Lemurians.

Please join me for part 2 of this journey into Lemurian history where I will highlight the Lemurian race and what Rudolf Steiner has documented about their way of life.
