This fantastic blue fluorite specimen from Blanchard Mine is in excellent condition. It was collected in 2015 and has hand-written notes on a piece of medical tape from the original collector.
The Blanchard Mine, located in the Hansonburg District of Socorro County, New Mexico (often mistakenly referred to as Bingham County), is one of the most respected mineral localities in the southwestern United States. Worked intermittently beginning in the early 20th century, the mine was primarily developed for lead, zinc, and silver, but it later became famous among collectors for its exceptional secondary mineral specimens.
The Blanchard Mine is best known for vividly colored fluorite—often deep purple to nearly black cubes—along with fine barite, wulfenite, galena, and a wide variety of rare species. Its complex hydrothermal system produced sharp, well-formed crystals with strong aesthetic appeal, and specimens from this locality are prized for their rich color, diversity, and classic New Mexico heritage.
