A beautiful deep purple color on this fluorite cluster from the Purple Rain Pocket in England. A large galena formation sits atop the fluorite cluster. Specimens from this locality are well known for the insane fluorescence. They are so sensitive to UV light they will even fluoresce under natural sunlight. The first photo shows the specimen under a long-wave UV flashlight with all of the photography lights on!
Fluorite occurs in a variety of colors, or can be colorless. Among the mineral kingdom it exhibits one of the widest varities of colors. Impurities in the Fluorite cause its colorations. It is a very common mineral that occurs throughout the world and is the only mineral that large quantities of elemental fluorine can be extracted from. England has produced some of the best specimens of Fluorite, most notably from the Rogerly Mine.
