Lattice sunstone from Tanzania is a rare and recently discovered variety of feldspar that features an iridescent, geometric grid pattern. While "Rainbow Lattice Sunstone" was once believed to be exclusive to the Harts Range in Australia, similar high-quality material was discovered in the Hakkâri and Arusha regions of Tanzania around 2022–2023.
The "lattice" effect is created by thousands of microscopic, needle-like inclusions of hematite and magnetite. These inclusions grow in precise, oriented planes, forming a crisscross or "fence-like" grid that flashes with rainbow colors when it catches the light.
It is one of the few gemstones to exhibit three optical phenomena at once: aventurescence (the sunstone glitter), adularescence (a moonstone-like glow), and iridescence (the rainbow lattice flash).
