This large selenite crystal on matrix is in excellent condition. It comes on a custom made acrylic display base that was hand-routed to fit this specimen perfectly. It allows the specimen to be securely displayed upright, with the specimen and locality labeled.
Selenite is a transparent to translucent, crystalline variety of the mineral gypsum (
), renowned for its pearly luster, white-to-colorless appearance, and soft, bladed crystal formations. As a hydrated calcium sulfate, it is highly fragile, with a Mohs hardness of only 2, and often forms in evaporative, sedimentary settings.
