Smoky quartz from Malawi is highly distinctive, primarily originating from the Mount Malosa and Zomba Plateau regions in the southern part of the country. These specimens are prized by collectors for their sharp, jet-black to deep amber coloration and frequent association with rare alkaline minerals.
Crystals range from light, translucent "glassy" brown to a deep, near-opaque black known as Morion quartz. Many specimens exhibit complex elestial growth patterns or "interrupted" terminations.
Malawi smoky quartz is rarely found alone. It is almost always associated with:
Aegirine: Lustrous, needle-like black or dark green crystals often included within or growing alongside the quartz.
Orthoclase Feldspar: Creamy white to pinkish crystals that provide a striking color contrast and frequently exhibit bright pink fluorescence under shortwave UV light.
Phantoms: Some crystals feature internal "shadow" crystals (phantoms) visible when backlit.
These crystals form in the pegmatites of the Zomba-Malosa alkaline intrusive complex, a unique geological setting that creates rare mineral assemblages including arfvedsonite and zircon.

Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery according to the tracking information on the order. Items must be returned in new/unused/undamaged condition to receive a full refund. Items returned to us damaged or not in original condition will receive a partial refund. Refunds will be issued to the original payment method on the order.
If a return is made for reasons other than an error on our part, a 20% restocking fee will apply and will be deducted from any refund due.
