Deschutes Jasper is a beautiful picture jasper found in a deposit near the Deschutes River in Biggs Junction, Oregon. It formed when mud, primarily from volcanic ash, filled crevices and solidified. Deschutes Jasper was discovered in the 1960's, but is believed to have been used by Native Americans for tools and weapons long before that. The material cannot be mined any longer, as the deposit is within State Park land and partially underneath a highway.
