Kogiopsis is an extinct genus of small sperm whales that lived during the Miocene Epoch. Their fossil remains are most commonly found in marine deposits of North America, particularly along the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plains. The teeth are composed primarily of dentin with a hard outer layer of enamel, and their elongated, conical form is typical of sperm whale teeth. Kogiopsis had a relatively small body compared with modern sperm whales, with adaptations suited to feeding in marine environments. Fossil teeth are among the more commonly preserved remains of these animals and provide useful evidence of their distribution and evolution.
