A wonderful specimen from the Moscona Mine, famed for its lustrous yellow fluorite. This cluster of cubic fluorite has a coating of white dolomite and calcite crystals perched atop. The fluorite will react to short and long wave UV lights. Under long wave UV light, you can see the beautiful zoning inside the fluorite cubes, shown in the first photo. The calcite crystals have weak reactivity under both wavelengths of UV light.
Fluorite occurs in a variety of colors, or can be colorless. Among the mineral kingdom it exhibits one of the widest varities of colors. Impurities in the Fluorite cause its colorations. It is a very common mineral that occurs throughout the world and is the only mineral that large quantities of elemental fluorine can be extracted from. England has produced some of the best specimens of Fluorite, most notably from the Rogerly Mine.
