Fossilized rostral barb from Onchopristus, an extinct group of sawfish-like cartilaginous fish that lived during the Cretaceous and early Paleogene. These distinctive tooth-like structures lined the animal’s elongated rostrum and were used to help capture prey. Onchopristus fossils are particularly well known from Morocco and other parts of North Africa, as well as Brazil and parts of Europe. The group survived from the Early Cretaceous into the Eocene, roughly 125 to 34 million years ago.
