Ram's horn selenite is a distinctive variety of gypsum characterized by curved, horn-like crystal formations. These shapes develop as gypsum crystals grow in fibrous, curling layers, often in evaporite environments where mineral-rich water evaporates. Composed of hydrated calcium sulfate, selenite is relatively soft and can display a pearly luster and translucent appearance. The unusual curvature of this specimen highlights the varied forms gypsum can take during crystal growth.
