Septarian Geode Freeform
Approx. Weight: 1.85 kg
Approx. Dimensions: 7 x 6.25 x 1.5
Locality: Mexico
This is an incredible septarian geode freeform from Mexico that was hand carved into a wonderful freeform shape that highlights the calcite and barite formations. The calcite crystals are UV reactive and glow a greenish/yellow under a long-wave UV flashlight. The barite crystal is phosphorescent, meaning it will hold a fluorescent charge for a few seconds after the UV light source has stopped.
Septarians are the result of volcanic eruptions and formed about 50 million years ago. Organic matter from the sea chemically bonded to the sediment around these volcanic eruptions and formed balls of mud. When the oceans receded, the decaying organic matter seeped into the cracks in the balls of mud and began forming Calcite crystals. A layer of Aragonite formed between the inner calcite and the outer gray Limestone.
