This wonderful specimen of smoky quartz with skeletal growth habit from Tanzania has a lot of character. There is a large window front and center and several interesting pockets inside the piece. There are two moving enhydros on this piece, shown in the last two photos. We made an effort to capture both on the video but with 15 seconds it's a little hard! Rest assured, both enhydros are clearly visible and both move within their pockets.
As quartz crystals form, they undergo a process known as crystal growth, where individual atoms arrange themselves into a repeating lattice structure. However, during this growth process, various factors such as impurities, changes in temperature, and the presence of other minerals can influence the growth patterns. In the case of skeletal growth, the quartz crystal develops irregular, branching structures resembling skeletal frameworks. These skeletal formations often display fascinating, intricate patterns, with delicate protrusions, cavities, and skeletal branches extending from the main crystal.
