Wavellite is named in honor of Dr. William Wavell, a physician, botanist, historian, and naturalist, who brought the mineral to the attention of fellow mineralogists. The most notable locality is in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas. It normally forms as green radial or spherical clusters.
